I met Thom by the farmers market in Jackson Heights, Queens. As soon as he appeared a group of kids ran up to him – in a second I saw why. Each one got a dog treat they could feed to Phoebe, his passenger poodle. He agreed to pose for a portrait. I didn’t have much time to talk at that moment, so I gave him my card and told him to contact me for the photo. Thom’s wife wrote me through the website a couple of days later. I sent her the picture and asked if she wouldn’t mind writing a few words about her husband for a profile. Here’s what she wrote:
“Thom has lived in New York since 1972. He was part of the comedy team Edmonds & Curley. They appeared on all the TV shows – Carson, Cavet, Douglas, Griffin. Thom was in several movies – Ghost, Roxanne, Sea of Love, See No Evil. He had a stroke in 1993. That’s when he got the bike.”
chicyclistrr - so cool that he rides a bike with his dog. i’ve seen bikes help a lot of elderly people get around and i hope to be still on a bike when i’m his age.
