This Saturday’s New Amsterdam Bicycle Show kicked off Bike Month with a bang. As I mentioned earlier, I was asked to sit on a morning panel on bike commuting, along with seasoned commuter Adam Pollock and Jessica Cassidy, who started riding her bike to work just a couple of weeks ago. Lara Lebeiko of Bicycle Habitat moderated, and I really enjoyed our discussion. Topics ranged from equipment essentials, to safety practices, to general attitudes about bike commuting. For my part, I shared some personal experiences, and also passed around a few photos from my #BikeNYC series to help show that there’s no one right way to do this. You can read Jessica’s excellent write-up of the bike show on her blog.
I had to leave the show soon after the panel to go to a photo gig, but I stuck around long enough to grab a few photos.

Taliah Lempert of bicyclepaintings.com had a booth where you could buy prints and a bike coloring book, among other things.
A lovely, phrenology-themed custom helmet from Belle Helmets, by artist Danielle Baskin.
Sorry, our lot is full.
What a great event. I hope they do it every year.
