New York Bike Portrait: Joe and his Schwinn

New York Bicycle Portrait: Joe and his Schwinn

Sometimes you have to stop someone in the street and demand a bicycle portrait. This was one of those times. Joe has owned this Schwinn for 40 years. He brought it here from Puerto Rico, where he says he paid $3,000 for it. Don’t let the scowl fool you, he was a very gregarious guy. Photographed on the Lower East Side.

Gotta love bike subcultures. Some people spend thousands shaving every gram off their ride. And some people screw on exhaust pipes.
