New York Bike Portrait: Steve and Clark in Long Island City

BikeNYC Portrait of Steve Vaccaro and his son Clark at Gantry Park in Queens

My first father and son #BikeNYC portrait. Steve Vaccaro and his son Clark. Steve is an attorney with the firm Rankin and Taylor and a cycling activist. Steve does legal work on behalf of injured cyclists and pedestrians and on civil rights cases. Basically, Steve works for the little guy. Clark is a great kid and every bit his father’s son – smart, curious and outspoken. He’s been biking in the city since he was a toddler, which means that, even at age 13, he’s been a New York cyclist a few years longer than I have.

We did the shoot in Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City, Queens. The location is significant: The Vaccaros lived in this neighborhood when Clark was very young. They have since moved to Manhattan, but have very fond memories of the area, which is quickly being transformed. It was great to meet and shoot these guys. True New York cyclists, both.
