Earlier this week I made an unplanned trip to Washington, DC to attend the National Bike Summit. DC bike commuter Mary Gersemalina saw that I was in town through Instagram, said hi on Twitter…
Very exciting to think that @gudphoto is in #bikeDC! Too bad he is not doing portraits… http://t.co/6QRadH8Pxl

…and a couple of hours later we were meeting by the Capitol for a chat and a portrait – officially the first #BikeDC shoot. Internet success story!
Mary runs the blog Chasing Mailboxes DC, where she writes about cycling and organizes pretty awesome social bike events in DC. Despite the ~18 degree weather Mary had her Rivendell Quickbeam with her and we managed a couple of quick portraits as the sun set.
Washington, DC was never a city I felt much connection with, to be honest. But my brief ride on the bike lane network and the warm online welcome from the #BikeDC community make me want to go back soon for a proper visit! Maybe when it gets a bit warmer…
