When I stop someone on the street to do a bike portrait and give them my card, I like when I get one in return. And I’m especially happy when the card has the word “GENIUS” on it. This is Bilal Egilmez, “genius tailor” from Turkey, and, some say, one of the best tailors in New York City. He was riding home to Queens from the Upper East Side shop where he has done business for the past 30 years. He’s been riding his bike in the city for about as long.
This is the pose he struck, and I wasn’t going to mess with it.
Check out Bilal’s shop at 347 E. 65th Street, between 1st and 2nd.
“Bilal, can we do one with you looking at the camera?”
Not really.
Yves Salmon - Hey
Everything about this picture is perfect. The colours (I have a red bike :)) The richness of the fabric (velvet?) But best of all the subject. Yes I agree sometimes it’s good to let the subject find themselves physically. His stance is old school and beautiful.
Nice shot!

Dmitry - Thank you so much, Yves! I’m very flattered. Wonderful portrait work on your site.
