I flew to Madison this past weekend to shoot Tough Mudder Wisconsin. The course was at Devil’s Head resort, and it was huge: half of it on the ski slope, the other half on a golf course. 7500 participants ran on each of the two days. This was the first Tough Mudder I worked in hot weather, which means people were actually looking forward to the water obstacles. Here are some highlights.
Well, this is a great thing to wake up to. I got an email from Kay of Flickr HQ yesterday saying they’d like to feature my #BikeNYC portraits on the Flickr blog, and asking me to write some background about the project. This I did, and the post went up overnight. It’s a great honor to be featured on the blog, which happens to appear on every Flickr user’s home page. This has also served to blow up my Flickr notifications with new contacts and comments. I’ll do my best to go through them, but if you want to get in touch, it’s always best to do so through the contact form on my site.

For weeks now, the city of Hama has been a focal point of the anti-government uprising in Syria. The city is currently surrounded by the military, and virtually no Western journalists have been able to get in. Hama has a bloody recent history – it was the scene of an anti-goverment uprising in the early 80s that was brutally suppressed by then president Hafez al-Assad, the current president’s father.
In March 2009 I visited Hama as a tourist. It’s a lovely, verdant town with a beautiful historic center. Here are a few photos from that trip.

I love summer thunderstorms. They usually come on the heels of a period of insufferable heat/humidity, don’t last very long, but at least give some temporary respite before the jungle heat returns. And sometimes they yield this:

A full double rainbow spanning Brooklyn and Queens.
