I just finished shooting Tough Mudder Tri-State 2011 in Englishtown, NJ. The weather was unseasonably warm for mid-November but, as the saying goes, 50 degree temperatures are not much consolation to a person climbing out of a dumpster filled with ice water. For the participants, Tough Mudder events are always a delicate balancing act between suffering and joy. Both were fully on display .
Chasing a monster truck, the “Terrordactyl”, from the starting line.
Wounded veterans running the course
One way to enter the Chernobyl Jacuzzi
The newly-conceived rope ladder obstacle proved insanely challenging, especially since you had to climb it after traversing a freezing lake.
This guy ran the entire course with this cigar in his mouth
Batwatch
Bald Don Draper with devil horns?
This guy starred in his own amazing Tough Mudder training video.
Yes those are ice cubes
This “Mud Mile” obstacle was nearly a mile long.
This guy carried “Cindy” with him through the whole course. For some, the Tough Mudder on its own is not tough enough.
God bless the Englishtown Fire Department. They’re not afraid to make the flames go.
For many, the Underwater Tunnels proved to be the most difficult obstacle

Glad you enjoyed shooting Tough Mudder Dmitry…
The guy carrying Cindy (Mike) is a member of team GORUCK, I had the pleasure of running with the both of them for parts of the course. If you liked shooting this event, you might want to inquire with GORUCK about photographing one of their challenges – check it out at http://goruckchallenge.com/
I’m not sure how it would work, but shooting them an email would be a great start, you can get some pretty epic shots =)
Cheers,

[…] Overview: Tough Mudder is like no other mud run event. After completing three in the past year, the TM crew has grown in their attention to detail, organization and creativity. Judging from the expressions of TriState finishers, it’s not hard to tell that this was one of the most impressive Tough Mudder events to date. It’s also easy to see why other mud runs continue to use Tough Mudder as their guide in constructing challenging obstacles that require grit, strength, pure will and most of all, camaraderie, to overcome. Tri State 2011 illustrated precisely why Tough Mudder continues to be the gold standard of mud run events. Check out some great photos from Tri-State 2011 by GudPhoto. […]
