Mimi is an old friend from my Cairo days. She just received her PhD in Islamic Studies in the department of Religion at Columbia University. Even more shockingly (JK!), she has a job! She’s a freshly minted Assistant Professor of Religion at the University of Richmond, where she’ll start in the fall. Her new employers were urgently requesting a professional headshot. I’ve taken a few photos of Mimi over the years, but none would quite qualify as a “professional headshot” (most if not all involve food, drink and/or bus travel in the Middle East), so we met for a proper portrait session. In New York you can almost always find nice light if you know where to look, even in the middle of a bright, sunny day. These were taken just outside her apartment building in Clinton Hill.
Nerd note: This was my first shoot with my newly acquired Sigma 85mm f1.4 portrait lens. At less than half the price of the Canon version, I have to say I’m pleased!
