Matt is an unabashed Star Trek fanatic, and while we were loitering, one of the groomsmen suggested that he stand under the overhead light and get “beamed up”. Matt obliged and struck the pose, but how to convey the beaming? My first couple of frames were flat, boring, bounce-flash shots. No good – and Matt wasn’t going stand there forever. Thinking fast, I realized that I needed to slow down the shutter speed to get some sense of *something* happening. Of course just dragging the shutter wasn’t going to convey action if Matt is standing still – so I threw another element in: zooming. I rapidly zoomed out my lens and released the shutter in the middle of the zoom motion. And there it was: Matt beaming up to the Starship Matrimony.
