Despite having been born and raised in sunny California, she never learned to ride a bike. I imagine it&#8217;s a little like languages &#8211; the older you get, the harder it is to learn. Unlike learning a language though, there&#8217;s also the years of accumulated fear of falling over and hurting yourself. And while New York City is slowly becoming more bike friendly, it&#8217;s still not the most hospitable place for a beginner. But her mind was set, and so she bought this beautiful Specialized Vita, secondhand. It must have taken a bit of real courage to ride those first few laps around McCarren Park last summer, but she made it without major incident.
