When I started to ride my bike around New York a year and a half ago, I began to really discover the city. As I biked more and more, what was previously a collection of islands around subway stops began to make sense as a coherent whole. One online tool was\u00a0indispensable\u00a0during this time:\u00a0Ride the City<\/a>, the website that lets you plot the best bike route from A to B based on various criteria.\u00a0So it was a treat this Saturday to meet and photograph Jordan Anderson (left) and Vaidila Kungys, the creators of Ride the City.<\/p>\n

We shot in Ft. Greene Park, which is appropriate, as the idea for Ride the City was born while they were both living in Fort Greene.\u00a0Neither Jordan nor Vaidila work on the site exclusively – each has a full time job in urban planning – but they are still very much involved in its maintenance and development. In fact, as I was prepping a shot, they held an impromptu business meeting and agreed that they were ready to launch Ride the City Vancouver. (It launched on Monday.<\/a>) There are now over a dozen cities served by the site.<\/p>\n
