As I mentioned in the previous post<\/a>, it turns out that a good #BikeNYC portrait is not just a nice keepsake\/Facebook profile pic\/Mother’s Day present<\/a>, but also excellent evidence of bike ownership to give to the NYPD in case they steal your bike. Of course, odds are the bike you’ll be picking up will no longer look like the one in the photo… in which case you’ll have a nice remembrance of the way things were.<\/p>\n

Maybe Alex<\/a> had this on his mind when he pinged me on Twitter <\/a>while he was out riding his brand new fixed gear, purchased just hours earlier from Metro Bikes. We met up\u00a0for a quick portrait at the entrance to the Williamsburg Bridge. \u00a0This is my first photo in this series taken in Manhattan by the way, if only barely.<\/p>\n

Before anyone yells at me for posing him in the middle of the bike lane during rush hour, I assure you that we checked for riders, and that he occupied the greenway ever so briefly.<\/p>\n
